New Horizons

I have decided to take a little break. It won’t be a break from creating, but more of a break from technology and creating regular collections while I shut myself away to make some changes to SpiralStone.

I have been wanting to experiment with new techniques, introduce new products and work on projects that I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. But all of this requires time, something that always seems to be in short supply around here, especially this year with our big move to a new country.

So this means that I won’t have anything new to show you until early next year. These months will allow me the time to bring new work and ideas to life. I have so many exciting things planned; new products, new collections, a brand new SpiralStone.

Thank you for being here and following my work. I am so incredibly grateful to all of you.

once in a blue moon

The modern day definition of a blue moon is when there are two full moons in one month, the next one occurring in July 2015. However, traditionally a blue moon is when there are four full moons in a season rather than the usual three (or when there are 13 in a year), making tonights full moon a blue moon. Many cultures named the full moons each month to reflect the times for planting, harvesting or seasonal conditions, when there was an extra full moon in a season it was referred to as a blue moon.

Regardless of what definition we may use, I made this ring as a reminder that what sometimes seems impossible, can actually happen.

More photos and details on sizing are in the Etsy listing, here.

New Beginnings

This jewellery is inspired by rediscovering and remembering things from my past; that while I lived away from my home were always fresh in my mind, yet now they are before my eyes. The unfurling fronds of the ferns, the clouds clearing over steep mountains, geckos slipping away over mossy rock paths... I feel like I have climbed into the attic, opened the closed boxes in my mind to see once again all the beauty of nature glistening in the sunlight.

small steps

My photo was chosen for the front page of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College Course Guide :)

I'm taking small steps towards my dreams and goals.

My husband has been working overseas again, and our little girls are busy doing so many amazing activities that take up a lot of my time, so I've been struggling to get any jewellery made.  He'll be home tomorrow so I can finally spend more time in my little studio and finish what I've been working on.  I have lots of creative projects planned, I'm hoping to have a lot more work to show you here in the next six months.

arrival

I’m here, in New Zealand! It has taken a long time but I’m finally in a place to start creating again.  The last three months has been amazing with days spent swimming in the river and the sea and gazing towards the distant mountains … it’s hard to believe that we’re really here some days, our life completely shifted to another country.  It has been wonderful for me reliving so many childhood memories, when I see my little ones experience the same things.  But, it has also been a time of forms, exemptions, insurance, accounting, tax, banks, paypal accounts, email accounts, real estate, customs, warrants, registrations and licences and … forms and forms and forms … all of which are a creative family’s nightmare!

We’re renting a little old house on the side of the hill overlooking the ocean and the distant mountains. It has a perfect studio that I’ve painted and made into a lovely space to work.  My tools have finally arrived (they were “packed forward” in the container so that I could get them immediately but they ended up being packed with everything else and were hidden amongst a huge pile of boxes in storage, so were hard to find!), but they’re here now and I can finally start working again.

In the meantime, between forms and adventures and getting my studio in order I have been making some beaded necklaces from some discs I created in Australia before I left. They take a really long time to make so it’s been the perfect thing to do while getting everything else sorted out, they’ll be listed in my shop tomorrow.

Besides these necklaces my only creative outlet has been taking photos … I’ve taken a lot … so here are a few pictures of my new home.  I’m so happy to be here and I’m so looking forward to sharing this inspiring place in photos and jewellery. It’s a new beginning.
